History
La Sierra University began as La Sierra Academy, founded in 1922 as a secondary boarding school. It became Southern California Junior College in 1927 and La Sierra College in 1939, growing to four-year degreegrantingstatus in 1944. In 1967, it became an integral part of Loma Linda University as the College of Arts andSciences. The School of Education was organized in 1968, the School of Business and Management in 1986, andthe School of Religion in 1987. During this merger with Loma Linda University, it continued to operate on the LaSierra campus. In 1990, the Loma Linda and La Sierra campuses were reorganized into two separate universitiesand the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Business and Management, and theSchool of Religion, together with the Center for Lifelong Learning, became La Sierra University.
Location
The University is located on the western side of the city of Riverside, just north of Interstate 91 at the Pierce Street exit.
