The University is located on a slope at the base of Mount Saleve, near the Franco-Swiss border, overlooking Geneva some seven kilometers away and the towering escarpments of the Jura range.
History
Adventist University of France in Seleve
The Séminaire Adventiste du Saleve (the institution’s first name), was founded in 1921 at the foot of mount Saléve, as a continuation of the missionary school which operated from 1904 to 1921 at La Ligniére (Gland), in Switzerland. Since then it has been the official training seminary for the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the southern European fields of the Euro-Africa Division and for the French speaking countries in the world. In 1988 the institution took the name of Institut Adventiste du Saléve. In 1996 the name changed to Centre Universitaire et Pédagogique du Saléve to become Campus Adventiste du Saléve in 2000 and in 2009 (in English) Adventist University of France.
The first class of students graduated in 1923. The first three-year diplomas (licence en théologie) were granted in 1962, and the first four-year degrees in 1980. In 1983 the Faculté adventiste de theology (FAT) signed an agreement with the University Marc Bloch of Strasbourg for the recognition of the BA and Master programs. In 1996 AAA accredited an MA in Theology. In 2007 the FAT signed an agreement with Friedensau University allowing the students to validate in the state in Germany their BA and MA diplomas in theology. In 2008 the agreement with Strasbourg University was renewed.
Four research centers are operating on the campus: The Historical Archives for the French speaking countries of the Euro-Africa Division; the European section of the Geoscience Research Institute; the Jose Figols Center for Youth Ministry (2001); the Ellen G. White Research Center (2002); and the Institute of Human Sciences (2013).
