History
After the civil war in Rwanda forcing the closure of the Adventist University of Central Africa, the Adventist Mission of Congo established in 1994 a collegiate program in theology with affiliation arrangements from Griggs University. On June 6, 1995, a proposal to open an Adventist University at Lukanga was voted at the mid-year meeting of the African Indian Ocean Division (AID) held at Douala. Five months later, the board and the first Rector, Dr. Robert Pierson, were confirmed during the Division annual meeting held at Abidjan on November 14, 1995. Two years later (in 1996), the Ministry of Higher Education of the DRCongo authorized the establishment of the Adventist University of Lukanga, with permission to offer degree programs in theology, business administration, letters, and Education. About 100 students registered for the programs. In 2001, the university started a public health department and starting September 2012, the nursing and agriculture programs are offered. All these programs are allowed to offer a first cycle and second cycle degrees.
